Asakusa Samba Carnival – 浅草サンバカーニバル

Seit 1981 findet nun schon alljährlich der “Samba Carnival” (サンバカーニバル) im Tokyoter Stadtteil Asakusa (浅草 / あさくさ) statt – immer am letzten Samstag im August. Und jedes Jahr zieht er mehr Besucher an. Waren es im Jahr 2012 schon über eine halbe Million, sind es in diesem Jahr ganz bestimmt nicht weniger geworden. Wie auch schon im Vorjahr hatten die Wettergötter ein Einsehen und haben, statt des angekündigten Regens, eine wahrlich basilianische Hitzewelle über die Stadt geschickt.

Anlässlich des 32. Festivals waren etwa 4.700 Tänzerinnen und Tänzer in 26 Gruppen unterwegs.

Aufgrund der großen Menschenmassen, die sich entlang der Kaminarimon Dori (雷門通り / かみなりもんどおり) in Asakusa versammelt hatten, war es schwierig, wenigstens ein paar Teile der farbenprächtigen Parade im Video einzufangen – erwarten Sie also bitte nichts in TV-Qualität, sondern nur einen kleinen Einblick in das mehrstündige Paradeprogramm.

Already since 1981 Tokyo has its own Samba Festival, the so-called “Samba Carnival” (サンバカーニバル) in the Asakusa district (浅草 / あさくさ) – every year on the last Saturday in August. And every year it attracts more and more vistors. While it were more than half a million in 2012, it looks like it wasn’t any less this year. The gods in charge of the weather seemed to be very much in favour of the Samba – instead of the rain that was forecast, they provided a truly “Brazilian” heat wave.

About 4,700 dancers in 26 teams took part in the 32nd annual event.

Due to the sheer masses of people on both sides of the Kaminarimon Dori (雷門通り / かみなりもんどおり) in Asakusa, it was almost impossible to catch at least some parts of the colourful parade on video – so don’t expect anything in TV-quality, but just a little glimpse into the parade spectacle which went on for several hours.
