Someity (ソメイティ)
Natürlich gehören zu olympischen und paralympischen Spielen Maskottchen – besonders in dem Land, in dem man den Eindruck gewinnen könnte, sie seien hier erfunden worden: in Japan.
Auf insgesamt 23 Postern werden die 22 Sportarten der Sommer-Paralympics 2020 von deren Maskottchen, Someity ( ソメイティ), präsentiert. Da sich der Name des Maskottchens u.a. von einer Kirschblütenart (somei yoshino / 染井吉野 / そまいよしの) ableitet, darf man sich nicht wundern, dass das Maskottchen pink ist und Ohren und Sensoren in der Form von Kirschblütenblättern hat (was nicht als ein Hinweis auf dessen Geschlecht zu deuten ist – die Maskottchen für die olympischen Sommerspiele und die paralympischen Sommerspiele sind – wie sich das gehört – geschlechtsneutral). Andererseits klingt der Name ganz absichtlich nach dem englischen “so mighty”, was wiederum auf des Maskottchens enorme mentale und physische Stärke hinweist.

Of course, mascots belong to the Olympic and Paralympic games – especially in the country where you might get the impression that they were invented here: in Japan.
The 22 sports of the Summer Paralympics 2020 are being presented by their mascot, Someity (ソ メ イ テ ィ) – pronounced soh-may-tee – on a total of 23 posters. Since the name of the mascot comes from a cherry blossom species (somei yoshino/ 染井吉野 / そまいよしの), one should not be surprised that the mascot is pink and has ears and sensors in the shape of cherry blossom petals (which should not be interpreted as an indication of its gender – the mascots for the Summer Olympics and the Paralympic Summer games are – as they should be – gender neutral). On the other hand, the name intentionally sounds like “so mighty”, which in turn indicates the mascot’s enormous mental and physical strengths.
